Weekday Preschool Newsletter May 2004

End-of-Year Picnics: We will be having an end-of-year picnic during the lunch hour time for the preschool classes. YOUR CHILD'S PRESCHOOL CLASS WILL FINISH AT 11:15 am (for the morning class) AND NOT START UNTIL 12:45 pm (for the afternoon class) ON PICNIC DAY!! We will meet at Antelope Park at 11:30 and have the children sing a few of their favorite songs. Then we will eat lunch and the children can play on the playground equipment. Each family is to bring whatever they would like to eat that day. (You can make a picnic lunch, bring fast food, whatever you would like to eat that day.) We will have some drink, maybe lemonade, for you if you need drink. Please bring a blanket to sit upon as we are not paying to reserve any tables or shelters, so it will be first come, first serve.
If your child is in a morning class, please pick them up at 11:15 am on their picnic day and be at Antelope Park by 11:30 am. If your child is in the afternoon class, just meet the teachers at the park at 11:30 am. You will need to take them to preschool at 12:45 pm that day. If you are unable to come to the park please remember to pick them up at preschool early at 11:15 am or drop them off late, at 12:45 pm that day.

Here are the dates for the picnics:
MTWThF class Tuesday, May 18th at 11:30 am
BOTH Mon-Wed-Fri classes Wednesday, May 19th at 11:30 am
BOTH Tues-Thur classes Thursday, May 20th at 11:30 am

Hat Parade: During our "Hat" week, the children may wear a funny, silly, or favorite hat for a hat parade. We will walk all through the church and show others our hats!! Please have them bring it on Thursday for the T-Th classes and on Friday, May 14th for both the MTWThF class and for the MWF classes. If they choose not to do it, that's fine too!! (They can also borrow one from our dress-up clothes if they forget or change their mind!!)

Silly Dress-Up Day: On Wednesday, May 26th or Thursday, May 27th we will have a "Silly Dress-Up Day". The teachers and the children can wear silly, mismatched, wrong sized, etc. clothes. They can wear their clothes inside out, upside down, non-matching shirts and pants, socks, shoes, etc. Be creative and have fun!!

Bus Ride: The MTWThF class and the MWF classes will be riding the city bus on Friday, May 28th. Each child can bring $.25 to put in the money box on the bus. Preschool will pay the remainder of the fare that is due. We will board the bus on South Street right across the street from preschool and ride it downtown and back again. We won't be getting off downtown, just one continuous ride!! It is a fun way to see the city and an experience that many children never get to ride on a big, city bus!! Parents are welcome to ride along with us!

Pajama Day: On Tuesday, June 2nd (for the T-Th classes) or on Wednesday, June 3rd (for the MTWThF class and the MWF classes) the children can wear their pajamas to preschool. They may also bring a blanket and one stuffed animal. They must be wearing either shoes or slippers (health department regulation) on their feet. We will watch a movie in the new theater and pop some popcorn to eat!!

Summer Registrations: Please turn in a registration form now if your child will be attending preschool this summer. We have not received any registrations from some of you that I think are planning on sending your child!! Thanks!

Staff News:

Congratulations to two new, first-time Grandmas - Jean Gardner has a grandson named Jaxson Christopher, and Marge Foster has a grandson named Van Aaron.  Ask them about their new babies and watch them beam and smile!!
Heather Miner has accepted a job as Preschool Director of a preschool in her hometown of Grinnell, Iowa. We are really sad to see her leave Westminster Preschool, but know that she will do a great job of handling the new challenge and responsibilities of directing a preschool!! We wish her well on her new adventure!!

I would like to thank my staff for all the extra responsibilities they have assumed for me during the last few weeks before my mother's death on March 21st.  A special thank you to Tory Kerns and Jodi Kimminau for substituting so that all the preschool teachers could attend her memorial service.  I am blessed to have so many wonderful staff and parents to help and support me during these difficult times. May God bless all of you.
