Weekday Preschool Newsletter June 2005

Westminster Summer Preschool

Hello!! &  Welcome!! to our summer preschool program!  We enjoy having the  children here during the summer months and look forward to smaller classes!!
Each month you will receive a newsletter with a calendar attached to it.   It will provide you with the information you need for that month.  The  calendar will tell you what our themes are for each week, the activity for  the day and when Show ‘N Tell and Chapel Chat times are.

Registration Forms: If your child has not attended Westminster Preschool before, we must have their completed registration form on file BEFORE they  may attend preschool.  You can bring it with you on the first day your child  attends summer preschool if you choose, but NO child will be allowed to  remain in preschool unless we have a completed registration form on file for  them.
If your child attended Westminster Preschool during the school year, we will just continue to use the form we already have on hand.

Drop-Off Service: We offer a drop-off service for parents when they bring their children each day at 9:00 am or at 12:30 pm.  We like to have parents  bring their children into the classrooms each day so we can see them and  talk to them.  However, we  realize that with newborn babies, or several  siblings or a home daycare situation, it is often difficult (and even unsafe  at times) to bring them all into the building with you.
If you choose to use the drop-off service, one of the teachers will be waiting just inside the north doors to take your child out of the car and walk them into the building.  Another teacher will be at the top of the stairs to sign them in for the parents and make sure they enter the upstairs classroom safely.  Parents still need to come in to pick up their child at the end of class (or from extended care) each day and sign them out.

Sign In/Out Book: There is a sign in/out book for preschool that you need to sign to document who is bringing and picking up your child.  There is a separate sign in/out book for extended care.  If you are unsure, please talk to one of the teachers and they can show you what we would like to have you do.

Extended Care Rooms: Extended care from 7:30 am until 9:00 am will be in the upstairs classroom.  Extended care from 11:30 am until 5:30 pm will be in the downstairs classroom.  You need to come into the classroom to either bring or pick up your child, so that you can sign them in or out on the extended care sign in/out list.  Every two weeks, you will receive a bill for whatever time your child was in the extended care program.

Tuition and Extended Care Fees: Tuition is due on Monday (or Tuesday if your child does not attend on Mondays) of each week that your child attends preschool.  You may pay for several weeks at one time if you prefer.  If you would like a receipt or need a child care reimbursement form signed, please let me know.  You will not be receiving any bills for preschool, simply put your tuition payment in the payment box on top of the cubbies.
Extended care bills will be placed in your child’s cubbie every two weeks.  The rate for extended care is $3.00 per hour. You may pay for both tuition and extended care with just one check if you prefer!!  Please put your child’s name on the memo line, especially if they have a different last name than the name printed on the check.

Show ‘N Tell: We will have Show ‘N Tell twice a month in the summer.  Your child may bring any ONE item they would like to show to the other children and talk about.  This helps children become more confident and gives them a special time in front of the class and is good practice for the other children to become better listeners!!  The T-TH classes will have their time on Thursday, and the MWF and M-F children will have their times on Friday of the same week.

Chapel Chat: On alternating Mondays and Tuesdays, we will have our Chapel Chat times.  This is when we go into the Faith Village area (across the hallways from the gym) to listen to bible stories, sing some songs and have a prayer.  The morning classes will go at 11:00 am and the afternoon classes go at 2:30 pm.

Cubbies & Coat Hooks: Every child will have a cubbie in the upstairs classroom.  These are used to put in any notices, bills, newsletters, etc. for the parents.  Please check your child’s cubbie every day and take home anything that is there.  Each child will also have a hook with their name above it.  If your child stays on a regular basis for extended care, they will also have a cubbie and a hook with their name on it in the downstairs room and hallway.

Book Orders: There will be two or three book orders attached to the newsletter each month.  If you would like to order books, please fill out the order blank and be sure to write your child’s name on it.  Book orders need to be turned in by the 10th of the month.  Enclose either cash or a check made out to Scholastic Books.   I will send in a group order and then place the books in your child’s cubbie when they arrive.
If you want them to be a surprise or a gift, please let me know and I will given them to you so that your child does not see them.

Snack List: On the Parent Information Board in the upstairs classroom is a snack list where you can sign up to bring snacks if you would like to.  You are not required to do so, and we always have snacks and juice as a backup if no one signs up or if you forget on your day!!  Please check with the teachers to see how many children are enrolled during the week you choose to sign up to bring snack, because it changes from week to week.  There are usually between 15 and 20 children in the morning and around 8 - 10 in the afternoon.  We have refrigerators and freezers to keep things cold if needed until snack time.  Tow cans of frozen juice or a gallon of milk or juice is sufficient for the drink.

Jackets, Sun Screen, and Tennis Shoes: We will be going outside often when the weather is nice.  Please bring a jacket if one is needed and put any Sun screen on your child if they need it when they are outside.  We will never be outside longer than 25 - 30 minutes at one time.  Tennis shoes are much better for playing on the playground and going on walks than flip flops or open-backed shoes.  Thanks!!

Each day, when the preschool class is ready to begin, we will open the front door of the upstairs classroom (at 9 am and again at 12:30 pm).  If you need to bring your child in prior to 9 am or 12:30 pm, you will need to sign them in to the extended care program and will be billed for the extra time.
At the end of each preschool class, we will again open that front door so you can come into the room and pick up your child.  We will be having our group time activities at the end of class and it is disruptive to have parents entering the room at that time.  (NOTE: If you need to pick your child up early someday for any reason, you are welcome to come on in and get them.)
You are also always welcome to visit our program anytime.  We also like to have pets come to visit.  You do not have to wait until a Show ‘N Tell day to bring your pet, just check with the teachers to make sure we don’t have other pets coming that day already!!

I hope this has answered most of your questions about our program.  (If your child is already attending, this is just a friendly reminder for you!!)
If you have any questions, or need to talk to me prior to the start of the  summer preschool classes, please call me in the afternoons at 475-6702, ext. 103.
