Book Orders: There are book orders attached to this newsletter.
If you want to place an order, you need to turn it in before the 10th
of the month. All checks should be made out to "Scholastic" or you can
send cash. Books are usually here by the 25th of each month.
Please be sure to include your child’s name on the order blank.
Safety Week: During the week when our theme is Health and
Safety, we will be talking with the children about our own personal health
and also about safety issues, like fire safety and wearing our seat belts
when riding in a vehicle, etc. One of the things we will be talking about
is that families need to have a designated "Safe Meeting Place" outside
their home. This would be a place where all family members would meet if
they needed to get out of their home quickly due to fire. We would
appreciate it if you would talk with your child about this in advance so
they would know where this "Safe Meeting Place" is for your family.
We conduct a monthly fire drill in each of the classes and we also do a
tornado drill once every three months. While these are sometimes scary to
children the first time or two we do them, it becomes very routine and
natural to them after that. That is what is intended, so that in the event
of an actual fire, they will not panic or become as frightened. This is a
state licensing requirement for our program.
Adventure Camp Days: There are three days in October when there
are no preschool classes. The dates are Monday, October 10th,
Monday, October 31st and Tuesday, November 1st.
Attached to this newsletter is a
flier (Click here) with information about the times
and rates for these Adventure Camp days. If you want your child to attend
on any or all of these days, you must return this registration form so we
know how many children to plan for each day. You can either pay when you
register or you will be billed for these days on the next extended care
bill.
Taekwondo Safety Demonstration: On Wednesday, October 5th
in the MTWThF class and both MWF classes, we will be having a safety
demonstration in our classrooms. We are grateful to the Taekwondo Academy
for offering this service and have heard positive things from other
preschools and child care centers where they have given a demonstration in
the past. You are welcome and invited to come and watch this presentation
if you would like. The MTWThF class will have their demonstration at 10
am, the MWF morning class’ will be at 10:30 am and the MWF afternoon
class’ demo will be at 2:00 pm.
Halloween Party: On either Wednesday, October 26th
or Thursday, October 27th we will be having a Halloween Party
in each of the classes. The children may dress up in a costume if they
would like. We prefer the costumes to be simple and not too scary!! If
your child does not want to wear a costume, that is fine too!! We will
take a group picture right at the beginning of the class and then go over
to the church office area and "trick or treat" them with a parade!! If you
would like to take a picture, bring your camera with you that morning and
plan to remain for a few minutes until everyone is there for the group
picture. We will fill a pinata with candy and break it and also carve a
pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern. You may send regular clothes for your child
to change into if their costume is difficult to wear and play in.
Staff Update: Katie Lochner (a MWF morning class teacher) is
moving to Iowa the first of October. Her husband works for State Farm and
is being transferred there. We are sorry to have Katie leave, but we wish
her and her husband and their two sons the best in their new home there.
Emily Fauble has been hired to take Katie’s place. Emily has worked
with children for many years, as a nanny, a home child care provider and
as the Assistant Director for a Parent’s Day Out Program here in Lincoln.
She received her degree from SCC in their Early Childhood Program. Emily
and her husband, Ross, have two children, a daughter who is an eighth
grader at Irving Middle School and a son who attends Westminster
Preschool.
Michele Roth, (also a MWF morning class teacher) will be having some
surgery on Monday, September 25th. She will be at home
recuperating for about three weeks after the surgery. Lorilee Couture will
be substituting for Michele on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays and Marge
Foster (extended care teacher) and Jo Beil will be filling in on
Wednesdays and Thursdays. We pray for Michele’s successful surgery and a
quick and easy recovery. Michele’s address is 1345 Bordeaux St. 68522 - if
your child would like to send her a card, note or picture to help her
"feel better" during her time of recovery.
Note: I will be gone on vacation from Oct. 13 to Oct. 24th.
Jean Gardner will be in charge while I am gone. If you have a question,
please talk to one of the teachers or leave a message on my voice mail and
Jean will call you back.
