1: Before there was a Westminster Presbyterian Church, its rich heritage started . . .
2: . . . in 1894 when a South Mission Sunday School was opened by 2nd Presbyterian church at 27th and Randolph.
3: (Same building in 2001.) The Sunday School met there until 1896, then moved to 24th and A Streets in ...
4: ...this building (two cabins joined together) and called it Pleasant Hill Chapel. The heritage continued ...
5: ... in 1901 when they changed the name to "Westminster Chapel". It was here on February 12, 1905 that "Westminster Presbyterian Church" was organized.
6: In November 1905 they held a ground breaking ceremony for this new building at 23rd and Garfield on the edge of town. The building cost $5,174 and furnishings $2,096.
7: On March 26, 1906 the congregation held its first public service here. In the early 1920s they made plans for a ...
8: ... new building at Sheridan and South Streets in the "new" Sheridan district on the edge of Lincoln.
9: Construction started August 1925 and moved along so that the basement level was occupied September 1926.
10: ... and the sanctuary first used December 5, 1926.
11: Our heritage continued as the building was dedicated May 8, 1927.
12: The congregation grew. A planning meeting held in West Hall sometime in the 1930s.
13: The kindergarten in 1950s
14: In 1951 the Chapel was added, followed a few years later by addition of the Education Wing and the Parlor.
15: Note that two-lane South Street! .... and the houses to the east, future location of our parking lot.
16: In 1955 we celebrated 50 years as Westminster Presbyterian Church.
17: Our tradition includes a fine music program for all ages. This is 1960s Youth Chapel Choir.
