One hundred original fish designs were unveiled
Friday, September 9th at the University
Place Art Center as part of Westminster’s 100th year as a Presbyterian
presence in Lincoln. Members of the congregation are doing many mission
projects to commemorate the Centennial including 100 walkers for the
October CROP walk; 100 + trees planted in Halam to replace those lost in a
2004 tornado; 100 items such as coats, warm hats and mittens, shampoo,
toothpaste and lotion which are gathered monthly and donated to local
missions serving people; 100 each of several food items which are featured
monthly, i.e. pancake mix, instant potatoes, Spam, crackers, cooking oil,
peanut butter and donated to stock the church’s Food Pantry; and of
course, the 100 very special fish.

The fish were handed out in May and then decorated
by members or their friends. The fish will continue on display at the
University Art Center throughout September and then return to the church
in October. On Sunday, October 16th, a live auction will be held at 7 p.m.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit Westminster’s share of a current
Habitat for Humanity house. The church has pledged $4,500 to this cause
plus many hours of hands-on construction time.
