Westminster’s 100th Anniversary Celebration

Our one hundredth anniversary year is shaping up to be an extraordinary series of events. On February 13, the Centennial birthday celebration will include: mass choir and bell extravaganza, special recognition of all whom have been members over 50 years, and remembrances from some of our most longterm members.

Plus, there will be an announcement about an up-coming opportunity that will be one of the most important changes in the next 100 years. There will also be a luncheon, with some special storytelling mixed in with the food and fellowship.

We want everyone to come share the festivities! Invite your friends to come celebrate with us on this special day. The deacons are ready to give rides to anyone who needs special assistance. Come celebrate our past and look forward to a dynamic future!

Over the course of the year, we will have a series of events to highlight our history and our vision for the future. On February 27, Rev. Robert Bohl, former moderator of the Presbyterian Church and retired pastor of some of the largest churches in the denomination will be our guest preacher. He will help us celebrate and share some important experiences with us.

Other events are in the planning stage. A seder is planned for March, to get us in touch with our roots. We will have the Scottish Heritage festival in May, including Highland Games for kids. We also are planning a time to gather long-term members to talk about what they remember from the past history of the church.

The Presbyterian Women are hosting a fashion show of bridal gowns from times past. In September, we will have a celebration of our core mission -- education. In October, we are planning a festival of religion and the arts.

It is a year when we will be "Growing in Mission.'' We want others to be blessed by our anniversary year. Just a few of the plans on the drawing board include:

• Plant 100 trees in Hallam to help the community look forward to a better future.

• Give 100 Easter chicks to replenish the flocks in the disaster areas of the world.

• Tell 100 stories collected with the help of the Lifetime Ministry and Communications Committee.

• Collect 100 each: coats, hats, mittens, as well as 100 each of 12 different items for the food pantry;

• Sign up 100 walkers for Crop Walk.

We have been blessed by this church. We want to celebrate all that God has given us, and what the Biblical founders of our faith have shown us. We want to recognize that we have been blessed to be a blessing.

Sincerely,

Andrew L. McDonald
Pastor
