Passover Seder Meal Set for Maundy Thursday Communion

Come experience the roots of our religious foundation found in the Jewish Seder meal which commemorates the Passover story (Exodus, Chapter 12). When celebrating the Passover meal, Jesus first instituted the Lord’s Supper with his disciples.

You are invited to a Seder Maundy Thursday, March 24, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The congregation will share a worship service, with communion, within the setting of a family meal. The Seder will replace our usual Maundy Thursday Communion service in the sanctuary.

Westminster members are invited to participate and encouraged to invite a guest who is not a member of our congregation to share this feast. Nursery care will  be provided for the younger children. Older children are welcome at the table. A free will offering will be collected. The suggested donation for the meal is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.

Reservations are needed to plan the amount of chicken to prepare! Call Jean at the church office (475-6702) to make reservations for the meal, for nursery care, and/or to specify a vegetarian meal preference by March 21.

Westminster Members Contribute to Tsunami Relief Two Ways

As of February 18, the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) had received an "estimated $4 million in individual contributions for tsunami relief." The money started coming in immediately after a magnitude 9 earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, sent massive waves inland across the Indian Ocean, slamming a dozen nations and killing tens of thousands. PDA, the disaster response arm of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has surpassed its tsunami aid goal of $2.5 million, which it set in early January.

Gifts from congregations and presbyteries are not reflected in the total above. That is because these gifts go through a different intake process via each presbytery’s treasurer

so that each church and presbytery gets credit for the gifts they submit. They are submitted at the end of each month.

Business Manager Cheryl Rennick, said on February 17, "The total (contributed by Westminster members) to date is $6,461.63 for the tsunami Relief . . . a member sent $500 directly" bringing the congregation’s total to $6,961.63 for the December 26 disaster. At the beginning of February, PDA estimated gifts from congregations and presbyteries at $595,000. Only the January part of Westminster’s gifts were in that total.
