Which one of Superman’s
powers would you choose for yourself? Most youth pastors would choose x-ray
vision, that is the ability to see into the hearts and minds of youth. As a
matter of fact, many parents would choose the same thing. Then we could all come
up with the million dollar answer to such questions as "What is going through
her mind these days?" "How does he feel about graduation . . . is he
scared? " "What do they really believe about God? And where will they go from
here?"In the coming weeks please stick
around and discover some of the answers.
During the months of May and June the whole
church family will have several not-to-be missed opportunities to glimpse into
the hearts and minds of our youth. I would like to share a few key moments with
you:
• Sunday, May 15: Confirmation. Ten youth
will confirm their faith on Pentecost Sunday. In addition to leading
worship, the 100th class of Westminster Confirmands will be honored at a special
luncheon in Fellowship Hall following the 10:30 a.m. worship service. I invite
you to join the 100th class and witness this unique rite of passage. Lunch
tickets will be sold in the Garden Room to any and all who would like to join us
on this historic occasion.
• Sunday, May 22: Teacher Appreciation
Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. worship and Noon celebration at Antelope Park. How
will our youth (and children) choose to thank their fabulous Sunday School
teachers? Come to Westminster to find out and then join the church picnic at
Antelope Park.
• Tuesday, May 24: Westminster Club. The
"WPC to NYC" Mission Trip participants will serve dinner and offer entertainment
to the Westminster Club at this special inter-generational event. Exactly two
weeks later, fourteen high school youth, three college students and four adults
will board planes to New York City (You’ll hear more about this in the coming
weeks.). This week-long mission trip will be challenging, exhilarating,
eye-opening and life-transforming. Mark my words.
• Sunday, June 5: Baccalaureate Sunday.
Join us as we recognize our high school graduates at the 10:30 a.m. worship
service and wish them Godspeed on their journeys to college. Maybe you’ll
remember when some of them were just knee-high to a grasshopper? On
Baccalaureate Sunday you’ll be able to say "Just look at them today."
X-ray vision is not required. But your
attendance is joyfully requested!
See you in May,
