Now is Your Time!
Columnist
Art Buchwald writes, "I don’t know if this is the best of times or
the worst of times, but I can assure you of this: this is the only
time you’ve got!" His playful words are also wise. And they fit with
our theme for the autumn: "For everything there is a season, and a
time for every purpose under heaven." (Ecc. 3: 1)
It means, now is our time to "seize the day." This month, we are
taking a close look at God’s call for us to seize this season in our
lives to live in joy, deep meaning and friendship. This month we
will explore:
Sept 3 A Time for Joy
Growing in the joyful life.
In a hesitant, reticent, held-back and
cynical world, how do Christians break free to live a joyful
life? Practical thoughts on the joyful life.
Sept 10 A Time to
Build Investing Your Life
Modern people often feel that life is
meaningless. Faith gives the antidote. Meaning comes from
being part of something bigger than ourselves. We gain
strength when we invest our lives in things of ultimate meaning
-- the work of God.
Sept 17 A Time to Seek
Living Your Faith Without Losing Your Mind
Many Christian churches ask you to "check
your mind at the door." Presbyterians are different in
claiming the importance of the faithful life of the mind. We
will explore a spirituality of education. Also, this is
Educator’s Sunday: bring a teacher to be honored in worship.
Sept 24 A Time for
Friends Making friends for Life.
Sociologists say that today people have
fewer and fewer friends. Jesus calls Christians to join together
as friends and to join in community to grow in God’s graces. We
envision launching 15 new small groups for over 200 people to
find new friends. We will celebrate the faithful importance of
friendship.
Imagine a month from now -- being more joyful,
more deeply invested in life, with a new framework for lifelong
learning, and being on your way to developing some new, good
friendships. Can that happen? Now is your time -- now is your
season -- in this church for all seasons.
Sincerely,
Andrew L. McDonald
