Creative Thinking About Mission.
The book of James says, "Faith without works is dead." What a challenge to the church! To keep mission "in focus," we dedicate a month to exploring our mission together.

Oct. 1 Meeting Our Mission Partners: The Mission Fair is an event where you are encouraged to come and meet our mission partners face to face. It is inspiring to hear their stories and very helpful to understand what they do.

Seeger, Springstein and Bacon. About a half century ago, folk musician Pete Seeger began updating a host of old songs, hymns and spirituals to reconnect them with modern times. This year, rocker Bruce Springstein came out with an update of Seeger’s songs. Boyd Bacon and Masako Nakamura-Bacon, using their creative genius, will lead worship with this array of exciting music that will make the very old feel fresh and new!

The Peacemaking Offering: Our annual Peacemaking Offering is dedicated to Christ’s call for us to make peace in the world. Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers."

Oct. 5 1984: Crimethink and the Dynamics of Evil at the Lied Center. The play 1984 is playing Oct. 6th. In preparation, there is a week of lectures. Columnist Ariana Huffington starts the week. I will have the Thursday lecture. Join us for lunch and some challenging ideas, at the Chestnut Café in the Steinhart Room of the Lied Center.

Oct. 8 Rev. Sara Dingman, will preach on "A Time to Act." The Book of James calls us to action. Faith without works is dead; faith with works lives!

Stewardship Member Canvass. Visiting Stewards will begin visits to the members, calling to share the good news, and to invite everyone to make a pledge. They have many folks to call on; if your pledge is in prior to this date, you will save them a trip.

Oct. 15 Pumpkinfest. This celebration of God’s creation supports our mission with Lohman, Germany and other special needs. The Mission trip to Hurricane Katrina territory is a special highlight for adult education.

Oct. 22 Matt Talbott Kitchen and the First Project are our adult ed speakers.

Oct. 29 Tom Barber from People’s City Mission will help us understand mission in Lincoln.

Come see and celebrate with us -- it is an exciting time to be in Mission together!
