Think about walking as an image of spirituality.
In the Bible, one of the first things God did was move Adam and
Eve out of the Garden of Eden. They were not just
young; they were spiritually immature. God knew they
needed to grow up. They could only grow if they started to
move. God made them walk out of the garden. It was not just
punishment--it was for their own development.
A far different story is Abram and Sarai. Spiritually, these 75
year-olds were very mature. Yet they had no child, and would leave
no legacy. God told them if they set out on a faith journey, they
would have as many children as the stars in the sky. But they had to
get up and walk.
A third group of stories is the disciples of Jesus. They all had
jobs and busy lives. Yet Jesus called and sent them throughout the
earth. They were to bring the life and light
of God. But it could only happen if they went where the Spirit
called them. They had to move.
Faith is about movement. Now it is our turn. We have to journey
to follow Jesus. We have to be on the go to live in the light of
God. Look at our life together at Westminster and you can see. We
are a church on the move. To name just a few signs of this:
New mission projects are being embraced.
There are twice as many children in Sunday School.
A new bell choir is being nurtured for worship.
The youth group is developing new vision.
New friendships are growing through small groups.
Prophetic teaching is taking place in adult education.
Stewardship is key in our continued movement. We need to step up
our giving. We need to look at what we give to God and ask, "Have I
moved forward in the past year? How can I walk further in the Light
of Christ?"
We are grateful for the many generous gifts that have been given
for the sanctuary/debt campaign. We need others to step up with the
annual Stewardship Campaign to help us keep moving forward. These
are exciting times for us. Pray that God guides us and continues to
help us as we move forward together.
Sincerely,
