Prayer at the Close of
the Sanctuary, April
13, 2008 |
|
Holy God, you call us
to worship. In so doing, you keep us aware of your love,
and teach us who we are. In restoring and renewing
this sacred space, help us to open a new generation to
the wonder and mystery of your unfailing love for us, in
Jesus Christ. We look back,
and We thank you Lord, for brave and believing people of
faith who brought your message to this place. We
remember them and their love… By their energies, this
church was gathered, given order, and given growth.
By their imagination, boundaries were broken and dreams
became reality.
Remembering with gratitude and love all those Christians
who have gone before us, may we follow as they followed,
in the way, the truth and the life of Jesus.
Eternal God, no building can
contain your glory or display the wonder of your love.
May this space be reshaped as a gathering place for
people of grace and good will.
In our absence, let us learn to see you again.
In our loss, let us learn to let go of the transitory.
In our gain, teach us to worship in gratitude and joy. |
When we return here,
May every time we gather meet with
your approval,
so that this building may stand
as a sign of your Spirit at work in the
world, and as a witness to the love of Jesus Christ.
You called us to be spiritually alive, broadly inclusive
and growing in mission.
Never let us board up the gate that leads to life; give
us a Spirit to welcome all people as brothers and
sisters.
Give us the heart to serve all people as you have served
us.
And give us your presence, that we may know life.
You have put a bold Spirit in this
congregation.
Save us from shrinking back in the face of opposition,
or from trembling in the face of great challenges. Make
us brave disciples, willing to speak your word and do
your truth with courage given by Jesus Christ, our Lord
and Savior. Amen
