Spirit of the Good
Samaritan Awards to be Presented at Samaritan Counseling
Center's
20th Anniversary Celebration |
|
The Samaritan Counseling
Center will present the 2008 Spirit of the Good Samaritan Awards
on Friday, May 16, at the Lincoln Station Great Hall in the
Haymarket. The evening will include a reception, silent and live
auctions and dinner. May is designated as National Mental Health
Month to raise awareness about the importance of mental
wellness.
Beginning this year, the Spirit of the
Good Samaritan award will be presented annually to an
individual, community organization and business exemplifying the
spirit of the Good Samaritan by responding to the needs of
others with hope, healing and a
helping hand. The 2008 Spirit of the Good Samaritan Award
recipients will be the Samaritan Counseling Center's founding
board members, Clinic With a Heart, and Ameritas.
In keeping with the event theme, "The Art
of Healing," Mark Gilbert, an award-winning Scottish-born
portrait artist, will speak during the program. Gilbert is
internationally known for his portraits of patients before and
after surgery for severe facial deformities. Currently a
courtesy assistant professor at the University of Nebraska
Medical Center in Omaha, Gilbert continues his patient
portraiture and has taught UNMC medical students to improve
their observational skills through drawing. |
Gilbert's work has been
featured on the CBS Evening News. The Samaritan Counseling
Center in Lincoln is a nationally accredited, non-profit
organization that provides professional counseling programs
which integrate an individual's values and beliefs in the
process of emotional, spiritual and physical healing. Open to
