The Village Voice
Faith Village

(9:00 a.m. & 10:45 a.m.)

Now I am certain that god treats all people alike.             -Acts 10:34

The Bible teaches us that God's love is for everyone and that all of us are created in the image of God. As God's people, we should love and appreciate others and be willing to learn from one another and work together. During the month of May, children in Faith Village will explore the story of the disciple Peter and the Roman Captain Cornelius to learn more about acceptance. Children will learn that:
  • we are all created in God's image;
  • God's love is also for us-we need
     to accept ourselves;
  • when we recognize our diverse
    and unique gifts, we can work
     together to serve God and others;
  • it is important not to prejudge
     people;
  • we can work to accept others;
  • we can be sensitive to our own
     behaviors or language that may
     show prejudice;
  • we can learn about and show
    appreciation for other cultures,
    countries and peoples.

Pentecost Offering

The Pentecost Offering
is
traditionally received
on the day
of Pentecost (May 11, 2008). It provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults. 40 percent of Westminster's Pentecost offering stays will remain here to support ministry with children at risk here in Lincoln.

The General Assembly's portion (60 percent) provides leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and young adults and supports children-at-risk programs at the national level. Since 1998, Presbyterians of all ages have raised over $7 million for these ministries that benefit younger members of God's family.

Join us as we celebrate Pentecost, May 11.

Stephen Ministry
To Take Sabbatical

After 14 years
of service to the members and friends of Westminster, Stephen Ministry finds it advisable to take a sabbatical. Current trained leaders and care givers have fulfilled their time commitments, and we have an insufficient number of new leaders to continue this ministry. This may be because other avenues of care have become available to members in need including Member Care Ministry, Small Group Ministry and an expanded Deacons care giving. Stephen Ministry will fulfill its current commitments with care receivers but will take on new relationships only on a case-by-case basis as the need arises.

Stephen Ministry care givers are grateful for the opportunities given them to serve our church in this way and pray that should the need arise, this care giving ministry can be given new life. May God's peace and love empower us as we continue to live out our faith in ministry together.
