Mission for the Whole Family
Westminster has a wonderful opportunity to share
with you! On the second and third Friday evenings of each month, we
serve dinner to Lincoln's homeless and working poor at The Gathering
Place (1448 E Street). All of the food and drinks are provided - we
simply help serve dinner and clean up. Dinner is 5:00-6:00, and the
total time commitment is approximately 4:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Would you and your family, or your group of
friends, your PW Circle, Small Group or Men's Fellowship Group (or
any other group!) like to volunteer one Friday afternoon? It works
best to have a group of 5-6 people serving, but there have also been
small groups of 4 and large groups of 8.
Openings are for the second and third Fridays in
July and continues through autumn. You can sign up to volunteer
either individually or as a group. A team leader is helpful.
Children who can do something simple like handing out plates or
bread are very welcome to help serve, as long as a parent
supervises.
It is so rewarding to help our "neighbors in
need." So take a risk and sign up today! Do see Pastor Sara with any
questions.

Adult
Education
9:00 a.m. Sunday Mornings
Serving One; Serving Many
Do our mission projects really make an impact? Do we ameliorate the
needs of only a few individuals or does our work have broader impact
in the communities we serve? In July, the adult education seminar
will take a brief look at Westminster's mission projects. Each of
the seminars will include a brief history, the current status of the
mission project and the goals for the future. Included in this
seminar: the final installment of our look at the Sheridan
community, a look at our Lohmen relationship, a report from the
Pearlington mission team, and we'll have representatives from four
separate missions to stop hunger in our community.
Today : "Tell What You
Think Westminster or its Members
Might
Do to Serve the Neighborhood"
July 8: "Lohmen in the 1st Person" - Learn how and why
you and
every Westminsterite
benefits from our 20 year
mission partnership with a tiny village in East Germany.
July 29 and Aug. 5: "Faith, Doubt,
Intimations and
Dilemmas: Ways of Thinking About Life" -
Bob
McCallister, former President of Doane College and
ordained Methodist minister, is inviting you to
participate in a two week series where you will look for
ways to discover your personal theology. This seminar
will help you more clearly define your understanding of
God and how God works in your daily life. Topics will
include how we talk abut God from
tradition to reason,
and where we begin understanding our relationship to
God.
Westminster Bible Class -
9:00 a.m. - Parlor
Westminster Bible Class follows the weekly Bible Study
series, THE PRESENT WORD. We welcome visitors
and new members. Leading the study today is Dr. Bud
Tenney.
"CROSSROADS"
Sundays - 9:00 a.m. - Library
This group of young adults
(18-30's) will give you
Christian fellowship, Bible study, new direction, and a
bit of fun as well! Please come and join
"CROSSROADS" - an excellent meeting, study, and
Christian experience for you!
Coming in September...
Westminster will begin a new churchwide small group experience based
on Rabbi Harold Kushner's bestseller "Living a Life That
Matters." For eight weeks small groups will draw on Kushner's
stories, on current events, and above all on the biblical story of
Jacob -- the worldy trickster who evolves into a man of God -- and
address some of the most persistent dilemmas of the human condition.
Registration will begin Sunday, August 26. Small groups will
start meeting the week of Sunday, September 9. At this time Small
Group Ministry is recruiting small group leaders. Could God be
calling you to shepherd a small group? We will offer special
training sessions for small group leaders on Sunday mornings in
July. Please see Kathy Collins or Pastor Sara if you would like to
get involved early!

Thank you for being faithful
to Westminster's
Second Century Campaign.
