Genesis Sunday, Invite a Friend to Church! |
Taizé Worship Tonight
A Taizé worship service will be held in the Chapel tonight at 7:30
p.m. The format for Taizé is patterned after a world-wide movement
where there is singing, scripture, silence and prayer. It is
informal and refreshing. Tonight's liturgists are Laurel and Tom
Pappas and the music is provided by Kiran Bhardwaj, Meera Bhardwaj,
Preston Bradley, Jon Jackson and Boyd Bacon.
Invite a Friend to Church!
"Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" "Here I am, Lord, Is
it I, Lord?" are the words we sing in unison in the popular song
"Here I Am, Lord." It is a favorite song of mine and is usually
accompanied with a lump in my throat. I believe everyone should
have the opportunity to sing this song with us and feel the power of
those words. Invite a friend to Westminster Church on Genesis
Sunday, August 26th as we celebrate a new year at Westminster.

Adult
Education
9:00 a.m. Sunday Mornings
Serving One; Serving Many
Do our mission projects really make an impact? Do we ameliorate the
needs of only a few individuals or does our work have broader impact
in the communities we serve? In July, the adult education seminars
will take a brief look at Westminster's mission projects and those
of Homestead Presbytery. Each of the seminars will include a brief
history, the status of the mission projects and the goals for the
future.
Today: The Broad Impact of Homestead Presbytery
Please welcome Barbara Hipple, the Mission and
Outreach Coordinator for Homestead Presbytery, who
will
share an overview of the Presbytery's mission
projects including our partnership with Presbyterians in
Olmeca,
Mexico.
July 22: Mission: Stop Hunger
Did you know that our congregation supports four
separate missions to stop hunger in our community?
Come
and join us in a question and answer session by
the
facilitators of the Westminster Food Pantry, the
backpack project, Matt Talbot's and the Gathering
Place?
"Faith, Doubt, Intimations and Dilemmas:
Ways of Thinking About Life"
July 29 and Aug. 5:-
Bob McCallister, former Dean of
Doane
College, Lincoln, and ordained Methodist
minister, is
inviting you to participate in a two week
series where you will
look for ways to discover your
personal theology. This seminar
will help you more
clearly define your
understanding of God and how
God works in your daily life.
Topics will include how
we talk about God from
tradition to reason, and
where we begin understanding our
relationship to God.

Coming in September...
Westminster will begin a new churchwide small group experience based
on Rabbi Harold Kushner's bestseller "Living a Life That
Matters." For eight weeks small groups will draw on Kushner's
stories, on current events, and above all on the biblical story of
Jacob -- the worldly trickster who evolves into a man of God -- and
address some of the most persistent dilemmas of the human condition.
At this time Small Group Ministry is recruiting small group
leaders. Orientation for those who are considering
leading a small group this fall, a luncheon is scheduled for Sunday,
July 22, immediately after 10:30 a.m. worship.
Registration will begin Sunday, August 26. Small groups will
start meeting the week of Sunday, September 9. Please see
Kathy Collins or Pastor Sara if you would like to get involved.
Second Century Campaign pledges thus far have
saved the church $7000 per year in interest payments on the
current debt and have established a fund to begin
construction on the sanctuary.
Thank you for your contribution! |
